Actually, Ms. Edwards-Bodmer, I've found the opposite - students don't know that they have an option other than the campus judicial system. I travel to quite a few colleges, and have heard many more horror stories than happy ones about campus judicial systems that give a slap on the wrist, if that. Many survivors I've talked to reported their rape to their RA or dean, and were never cognizant of remedies through our criminal justice system (not that those are any better).

Wendy Murphy emailed me after a recent exchange, suggesting some kind of "rating system" for college judicial systems - how they handle campus sexual assault, how in-depth their training is for judicial board members, how many complaints result in sanctions and what kind of sanctions, etc. It could be listed alongside other college rating systems - parents should know which colleges take sexual assault prosecution seriously.

I'm curious to hear the responses to your question - thanks for asking it! - Ben
