I am interested in hearing about any strategies which have been used to
increase student reporting of sexual assault. We have tried a variety
of strategies, incorporating various messages and reporting options into
all presentations and materials, but we have had fairly consistent
reporting rates over the past five years. I would be very interested in
hearing any suggestions for increasing student reporting. If you would

Job Announcement
MEN CAN STOP RAPE PROGRAM ASSOCIATE
Men Can Stop Rape (MCSR), a DC-based nonprofit that empowers male youth
and the institutions that serve them to prevent rape and other forms of
men's violence, is seeking a full-time Program Associate. Under the
joint guidance of MCSR's Director of Community Education, the Program
Associate will directly mobilize male youth to prevent men's violence
against women and will build the capacity of youth-serving professionals
and institutions to engage young men in their communities. Primary
responsibilities will include:
* Helping to establish and facilitate local Men of Strength
Clubs, which focus on redefining male strength and engaging young men in
ending men's violence against women.
* Supporting the expansion of the Men of Strength Clubs
nationally.
* Coordinating community service projects with Men of Strength
Club members.
* Delivering workshops to junior high, high school, and
college-age youth both locally and nationally.
* Providing consultation and training to youth-serving
professionals and institutions, including colleges/universities and
campus-based men's groups.
* Assisting in program development and evaluation.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree or equivalent and at
least one year of experience working with youth. Candidate must also be
an excellent public speaker, be efficient, organized, and able to
prioritize in the face of multiple tasks, as well as demonstrate an
ability to work independently and collaboratively. The ideal candidate
will also possess knowledge of issues related to gender-based violence,
masculinity, and men's health. Solid writing skills and a strong working
knowledge of the Internet and Microsoft Office programs a plus.

Hello
I believe that to increase reporting in the campus community you need to
first address the services. Is every office/agency a survivor comes in
contact with after an incident responsive and informed? Does the
prosecutor, student affairs officer, residence life staff person, law
enforcement officer, and medical response group know the realities of
this issue and allow for survivor based confidentiality and control? If
the answer is yes, the reports will come. If no, the matrix of support
is not conducive to survivor reporting.

My sexual assault task force would like to put together a 'one-pager'
for all faculty and staff that would give them some information about
what to do if a student discloses to them.

RE: reporting of sexual assaults: We think a good idea would be to give
incentives for every freshman to hang a poster in their dorm room alerting
them to the fact that they have rights if they are sexually assaulted, more
specifically that there is a federal law called the Campus Sexual Assault
Victim's bill of rights (1992) That way, if they or a friend suffers an
assault they will think, "I have rights - what are they? Where is that
poster?" It's one more thing colleges can do to raise awareness.
