I just received the following email from Angela, my colleague at the =
Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence:

"We are trying to assist our DV programs directors in locating their =
staff and also seeing if we can get some paychecks cut. The sad story is =
that the service providers are displaced and have lost everything, as =
with the first responders. We are trying to get donations not only to =
assist the battered women, but the displaced DV advocates. We still have =
DV advocates stranded in St. Bernard Parish. We have received cell =
phones call from them. They are not letting civilians into New Orleans =
and the lower parishes. CNN can be very misleading in some reports =
regarding this.=20

I'm not sure if you could help us spread the word about our Hurricane =
Relief Fund, www.lcadvhrf.org... am If you have an email list that you =
could send this info out or media contacts that you could do =
electronically. LCDAV is a small coalition, only 7 full time staff, and =
that is the area where we need help."

So please spread this information fo your non-DV colleagues, especially. =
 The mainstream funds have raised 200 million dollars so far - I think =
we can spare some for our colleagues in need.  See below for more =

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide direct services to primary and secondary sexual violence =
survivors, serving as a first point of care for referral and advocacy =
during business hours.   Design and implement sexual violence education =
for the MSU community including but not limited to working with students =
to coordinate prevention education and coordinating campus-wide =
trainings about sexual assault prevention, services, referrals and =
response protocol.

QUALIFICATIONS=A0REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree with 2 years of professional experience;
40 hour Sexual Assault Advocacy Training completed;
Knowledge of and experience with sexual violence-related issues, =
including support services and prevention/risk-reduction;
Knowledge of needs of college students or student development theory;
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including =
speaking/presenting;=20
Program planning experience and ability to work collaboratively with =
students, staff, faculty and other university constituents;
Sensitivity and an ability to assess and evaluate crisis situations;
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and appropriate boundaries;
Ability to supervise student staff and volunteers;
Demonstrated commitment to understanding the intersection of gender, =
race, economic status, sexual orientation, and other significant aspects =
of individual or cultural identity;
Proven ability to multi-task and fulfill deadlines under pressure;
Ability to represent the institution, the Women's Center, and the needs =
of students.

GRADUATE SCHOOL OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS
CENTER ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
 
UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO AT DENVER AND HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER, DOWNTOWN
DENVER CAMPUS
 
 
The Graduate School of Public Affairs (GSPA) at the University of
Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center is currently seeking
applicants for a faculty position to begin August of 2006 in the area of
domestic violence at the tenured associate or full professor level.
Salary will be competitive.  Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent
degree in public policy or administration, women's studies, sociology,
public health, social work, criminal justice or other related field;
evidence of excellence in teaching; a strong publications record; and
significant accomplishments and promise in funded research.  Candidates
must demonstrate ability to teach in the school's MPA, MCJ and/or Ph.D.

GSPA is the only comprehensive school of public affairs in the Rocky
Mountain region with programs on both the Denver and Colorado Springs
campuses of the University of Colorado and at a Western Slope site.
Degrees offered include the Ph.D. in Public Affairs, the Master of
Public Administration, and the Master of Criminal Justice.  
 
The Graduate School of Public Affairs offers the Program on Domestic
Violence, the first graduate program in the nation to combine intensive
study of domestic violence with organizational management and public
policy.  A federal earmark awarded to the school will fund the
development of a Center on Domestic Violence and this faculty member
will play a pivotal role in its creation, fostering collaborations
between practitioners and researchers, engaging regional and national
foundations and other organizations focused on domestic violence in
university endeavors, and in initiating educational and research
programs.  The Center on Domestic Violence seeks to end domestic
violence, fostering institutional and social change through leadership
development, education, research and community collaboration.
 
GSPA already has significant academic activity in the domestic violence
arena:  1) The Program on Domestic Violence serves as administrator for
a coalition of practitioners and University based and independent
scholars interested in the promotion of domestic violence research in
Colorado.  This group, the Domestic Violence Research and Action
Coalition (DVRAC) has been active for more than two years; 2) The
University of Colorado at Denver and CU's Health Sciences Center merged
in July 2004 providing exciting new opportunities for collaboration
including a newly established Center for Women's Health Research and a
proposed School of Public Health; 3) in addition to its academic
offerings, the school also hosts an annual educational series for the
community at large; and 4) Colorado has long been a leader in the
development of cutting edge public policy and innovative domestic
violence service and advocacy programming.  The School enjoys the
support and involvement of these local, state and national grassroots
domestic violence organizations.  
 
Part of a stunning downtown campus that enjoys views of the Rocky
Mountains, the school has strong connections to diverse communities, to
the state of Colorado, to metro area governments, and to business and
nonprofit organizations.
 
The ideal candidate for this position will exhibit an in depth
understanding of domestic violence as it relates to social justice
movements and other forms of oppression.  S/he will be informed as to
contemporary issues facing grassroots service and advocacy organizations
and demonstrate a strong history of applied and funded research having
affected community policy and/or practice.
