I'm sorry I was being in reading my email and didn't join this discussion
sooner.
I am a forensic nurse examiner in Virginia. We do not collect a PERK
unless the woman wishes to work with police because of chain of custody,
storage and payment issues. BUT, we have a great relationship with our
local police departments and its rare for us not to do one on someone who
requests it. And, usually those are on women who have waited too long to
come in (more than 4 days or so).
When we collect a PERK, we keep it on our person until it can be personally
handed over to the appropriate police personel. So, if the woman wasn't
working with police, we wouldn't have anyplace to safely store the kit.
