Marybeth Carter Departs CALCASA for
Blue Shield of California Foundation Against Violence Post
Marybeth Carter, Executive Director of the California Coalition Against
Sexual Assault (CALCASA), has announced her resignation effective July
22nd after seven years as head of the highly respected organization. As
of July 25th she will assume the newly created position of Director of
Blue Shield Against Violence at the Blue Shield of California Foundation
based in San Francisco.
CALCASA is the state sexual assault coalition representing the
grassroots rape crisis and rape prevention organizations of California
as well as allied organizations and individuals.
"Marybeth was responsible for providing strategic leadership to CALCASA
during a significant growth stage of our organization. With her
guidance, CALCASA has initiated national and state programs that have
had optimal impact on sexual violence and positioned CALCASA as a
national leader in addressing sexual assault, domestic violence and
stalking," according to Alva Moreno, President of the CALCASA Board of
Directors.
"Though we are saddened to see Marybeth leave us, we are pleased that
Blue Shield of California Foundation has seen the same expertise and
leadership we have in her and that she will continue to pursue ending
violence against women with the support of their organization," said Ms
Moreno. "We are fortunate to keep such a talented executive within our
state to continue working on this critical problem."
CALCASA's Board of Directors has appointed Ellen W. Yin-Wycoff as
interim Executive Director for the organization as they begin the search
process for a replacement for Ms. Carter. Ms.Yin-Wycoff has served as
Director of Education at CALCASA for four years and has worked closely
with the entire staff, board and the organization's membership. She is
part of the senior management team and well respected by her colleagues.
>From 1998 to 2005, Carter positioned CALCASA as a national leader in
efforts to end sexual violence through major accomplishments, including:
* Initiating a $4M campaign to prevent sexual violence in
California.
* Developing the nationally renowned Rape Prevention Resource
Center with the largest specialized library on violence against women
issues in the U.S.
* Sponsoring key legislation on behalf of sexual assault victims,
rape crisis centers and campus rape prevention programs.
* Founding member of the National Alliance to End Sexual Violence,
a national policy organization representing the state sexual assault
coalitions throughout the nation with Carter holding the office of
President since December of 2004.
