There are lesser penalties. The Clery Act specifically provides for a fine
when an institution significantly misrepresents their campus crime
statistics.
The overall Higher Education Act, of which the Clery Act is a part, provides
for fines for any general violation, say for not having or improperly
implementing one of the required campus sexual assault policies.
Presently the maximum per violation fine is $27,500. Thus far only one
school has ever been fined, but another fine recommendation was handed down
recently.
