Hello all. Along these lines, I teach a class on gender violence and
would love to measure change in attitude over the course of the quarter.
I've tried to find a good instrument for measuring attitudes towards
sexual assault (and/or other gender violence) but have been
unsuccessful. Does anyone know of a good instrument and where to find
it?
Thanks so much.

Hello, everyone. =20
I would like to ask for your help in providing some data for a new
project that RAINN is undertaking focusing on potential perpetrators and
bystanders of sexual assault to complement RAINN=B9s =B3Get Carded
Campaign,=B2 which primarily focuses on potential victims. RAINN will
launch a campaign later this year to address the issue of men=B9s role
in preventing sexual assault o= n college campuses. =20
If possible, we would like to have the campaign present actual norms for
men=B9s attitudes and behavior regarding preventing sexual assault. In
order to develop a persuasive message we would like to partner with
schools that have already collected data on men=B9s attitudes about
consent, bystander behavior, and/or to what extent men feel that sexual
assault is a problem. If there are enough schools that have collected
data then it may be possibl= e to create a message that includes
national norms on men and sexual assault.
If your school or organization has done any kind of surveys or other
form o= f information gathering involving men's attitudes and behaviors
regarding rap= e and sexual assault, we would really appreciate you
letting us use this information for our campaign.
To accomplish this we are working with Dr. Alan Berkowitz to help
develop a message that college men will respond to. We are writing in
the hope that you would be willing to contribute your data for relevant
survey questions to further help us develop the right message.
Our hope is to try and compile various studies by May 15th. If you are
interested in submitting your information, please send an email to
either myself at
or to Dr. Alan Berkowitz at
All institutions that participate by contributing data will be given
credit for their contribution.
=20
Thank you.

Dear Colleagues-
Legislation was introduced Wednesday in the U.S. House of Representatives
that would make two amendments to the Clery Act, both of which seem on their
face to be innocuous. I would, however, like to get your input prior to us
adopting a position which we need to do BEFORE MEETINGS IN DC ON MONDAY.
The most substantive amendment would eliminate 435 "foreign" schools that
are in one way or another eligible to receive student aid funding from
reporting obligations. The concern is the lack of availability of consistent
data given the differences between foreign criminal law and our own.
Apparently the U.S. Department of Education already does not require these
schools to report. Also, Congressional staff has indicated to us that it is
not their intent to exclude the foreign branch campuses of American
institutions from any obligations.
> (d) CAMPUS CRIME INFORMATION.‹Section 485(f)(1) (20 U.S.C. 1092(f)(1)) is
> amended by inserting '', other than a foreign institution of higher
> education,'' after ''under this title''.
The other change is purely "housekeeping" and would change references to the
current names of the House and Senate Education Committees to merely
"authorizing committees" in case the legislators decide to change the name
of the committee, or adjust jurisdiction somehow.
We are pursing a third change with the Senate Education Committee that would
exclude technical and trade schools from reporting obligations. These
schools do not have traditional campuses and the requirements aren't a good
fit. The main obstacle, however, has been coming up with a legislative
definition that clearly defines which institutions are covered and which
aren't since federal law treats all types of institutions equally in this
regard.
Any suggestions on how to draft a definition of technical and trade schools
would be greatly helpful. We don't want to inadvertently exclude any schools
physically large enough to benefit from the Clery Act, or schools with
traditional campuses like community colleges so we have to be careful.
Thank you in advance for your input. If you would like to discuss this with
me by phone rather than e-mail, please call me at (610) 768-9330 sometime
Thursday.
