The Office of Judicial Affairs and the VT Women's Center are currently searching to fill two positions that are funded through the U.S. Dept. of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Violence Against Women Office FY 2003 Grants to Reduce Violence Against Women on Campus Program. VICTIM OUTREACH SERVICES COORDINATOR, WOMEN'S CENTER
AND
VICTIM SERVICES ADJUDICATION COORDINATOR, JUDICIAL AFFAIRS
 
These positions are funded through the U.S. Dept. of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Violence Against Women Office FY 2003 Grants to Reduce Violence Against Women on Campus Program.  Please apply separately to be considered for both.
 
VICTIM OUTREACH SERVICES COORDINATOR, WOMEN'S CENTER
 
The Victim Services Outreach Coordinator is responsible for educational and outreach efforts aimed at raising awareness of the problem of violence against women. One of two positions funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, the second position is located in the Office of Judicial Affairs. The intent of this grant-funded project is to provide services to survivors, their families, partners and friends, and to provide education about the problem of gender based violence. The goal of the grant project is to increase the number of reports of violence and to increase the number of on and off-campus adjudications of gender based violence.
 
The Coordinator works closely with the Women's Center Counseling and Advocacy
Coordinator, the Office of Judicial Affairs, law enforcement, university and community departments to provide outreach and educational programs on gender-based violence. The coordinator provides educational programming for 1st and 2nd year students and creates and coordinates the distribution of educational material to students and families.  In addition, the coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, supervision and oversight of a student peer education group.  The coordinator is also responsible for assisting the Counseling and Advocacy Coordinator in providing direct services and advocacy to Virginia Tech students, staff and faculty, their families, friends and significant others who have been affected by sexual and relationship violence, stalking, harassment, cyber harassment and all forms of gender-based violence.

 
Competitive candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to working with survivors of gender-based violence including rape, sexual assault, relationship violence, harassment and cyber harassment, stalking, and abuse. Master's degree or equivalent experience is required. Community-based rape crisis counseling and community outreach experience a plus. Experience in creating and providing educational materials and programs to varied audiences, as well as experience in counseling, student services or relevant field is required. Technical knowledge of computers, website creation and management a plus. Applicants will need to demonstrate their experience working with varied units within a higher education context and diverse individuals and populations.

VICTIM SERVICES ADJUDICATION COORDINATOR, JUDICIAL AFFAIRS
 
 
The Victim Services Adjudication Coordinator works with the Office of Judicial Affairs, the Women's Center at Virginia Tech, and other university and community departments to provide coordination of the judicial process, outreach and education efforts concerning sexual and relationship violence, stalking, harassment, cyber harassment and all forms of gender-based violence and related issues for Virginia Tech students, staff and faculty, their families, friends and significant others. This position is funded by a two-year grant from the U.S. Dept. of Justice (a VAWA grant). The purpose of the grant is to increase the number of reports and on and off-campus adjudications of gender-based violence. The purpose is also to increase awareness and provide services to survivors, their families, partners and friends, and to provide education about the problem of gender-based violence.

 
The Adjudication Coordinator will serve as the primary contact and case manager for all parties involved in on-campus adjudication of alleged violations of the sexual misconduct policy and other alleged gender-based violations; and coordinate ongoing training efforts for all judicial board members. The Adjudication Coordinator also will adjudicate cases of student misconduct as a hearing officer in the Office of Judicial Affairs. Working closely with the Women's Center at Virginia Tech, this position will provide educational programming for first-year and sophomore students and their advisors; create and coordinate the distribution of educational products (brochures, etc.) to students and their families. In addition this position will work with the VT Sexual Violence Prevention Council on addressing campus and community issues related to gender-based violence.  In conjunction with on and off campus departments, professional in-service training will be provided to university personnel, law enforcement, and others as requested. Education efforts also include the development, implementation, supervision and oversight of student groups designed to provide peer education and support on issues of gender based violence and other related concerns.
 
Competitive candidates will have experience or excellent knowledge of campus-based conduct codes and related disciplinary processes and exposure to working in a college or university setting. Master's degree or equivalent experience is required. Demonstrated understanding and commitment to women's issues a plus. Experience in creating and providing educational materials and programs to varied audiences. Demonstrated communication skills helpful. Technical knowledge of computers, website creation and management a plus. Applicants will need to demonstrate their experience working with varied units within a higher education context and diverse individuals and populations.
