Dear colleague,

The U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), in partnership with the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), the Office of Victims of Crime (OVC), and the National Center for Victims of Crime (NCVC), invite you to participate in a series of conference calls on the problem of stalking. These organizations have partnered to share some of the most current and innovative ideas addressing this significant crime problem.

Scheduled for April 19 and 27, 2004, the conference calls will focus on three topics related to this important issue. All call times are for eastern daylight savings time.

1. Coordination to Create a Community-Oriented Policing/Problem-Solving approach to Domestic Violence and Stalking.
April 19th at 11:00 a.m. and April 27th at 1:00 p.m.

2. Stalking and Technology.
April 19th at 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

3. Working with Your Prosecutor to Respond to Stalking.
April 27th at 11:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Each call will open with brief remarks by the authors of Stalking, a new COPS publication, and by an practitioner with a successful track record in the subject area. Following the opening remarks, the forum will open to questions from participants as part of an informal discussion, allowing you to discuss best practices, share successes, and address other topics relevant to protecting victims of this often underreported crime.

Please register for any of the conference calls by e-mailing Matt Pierre at by April 15, 2004. Space is limited, therefore we encourage early registration. Please provide us with your name, title, agency affiliation, email address, and date and time of the call in which you want to participate.

Stalking, one of the latest titles in the Problem-Oriented Guides for Police (POP Guides) series. This Guide and a collection of associated resources is available at http://www.cops.usdoj.gov/Default.asp?Item=1035 to support your efforts to build stronger partnerships with law enforcement, community members, stalking support organizations and victims.

American law enforcement works best when it partners with organizations like yours. COPS is pleased to provide opportunities like this to help you build more effective partnerships with law enforcement to keep America safe.
