I would respond that first, mediation is completely and utterly
inappropriate as a campus system response for allegations of sexual assault.
Mediation works well for situation in which the two parties are in
relatively power balance. Sexual assault destroys an possible power balance
that might have existed (similar to racist, homophobic or other forms of
hate crimes). Campuses need to develop other systems than mediation.
I am not aware of many campuses doing different things, but it seems to me
that some level of sanctions, including deferring to a student to a sex
offender intervention group, would be appropriate if they have been
identified as perpetrating a sexual offense.

Hi All,
I am curious about what policies other campuses have in place for when a
student is reported for raping someone, admits it in a mediation setting
and is then left on campus.
It seems to me risky to leave a known rapist on campus without warning the
other students, but at the same time i can see legal issues arising from
sanctions when judicial procedures are not pursued.
How do other campuses handle known (admitted) rapists who are not charged
under the criminal justice system or the campus judicial system but are
instead handled at a "mediation" level?
Do your campuses have such mediation responses?
