False Rape Allegations Appears In Archives of Sexual Behavior. 1994, 23, 1, Feb, 81-92. Abstract
An analysis of 45 consecutive, disposed, false rape allegations (FRAs) reported over a 9-year period to the police agency of a small metropolitan community in the midwest, which constitute 41% of the total forcible rape cases reported during this period. Drawing from case records, it is suggested that FRAs serve 3 major functions for the complainants: providing an alibi, seeking revenge, & obtaining sympathy & attention. FRAs are not the consequence of a gender-linked aberration, but reflect impulsive & desperate efforts to cope with personal & social stress. 42 References. Adapted from the source document
