Warning - the following is written not by a teacher or professor, but by
an enthusiast and former student:
I think Susan Brownmiller's "Against Our Will: Men, Women and Rape" is a
great start to any library. But I find Angela Y. Davis' critique of the
book, in her essay "Rape, Racism, and the Myth of the Black Rapist," so
compelling and profound that I would recommend teaching or using the
essay whenever one uses Brownmiller's book. The essay can be found in
Davis' "Women, Race, and Class," which as a whole is just an incredible
read.
I would also second the suggestion of "Surviving the Silence," by
Charlotte Pierce-Baker.
In Strength,
David
