Hello guys!

Sorry for such a last minute email. There is this awesome Faith and Science discussion group that goes on at the Center for Christian Study. I was going to send an email about this and another cool opportunity in the next few days. However, apparently the first meeting is today, 4-5pm. The information should be in the forwarded message. I hope at least some of you can make it. But if you can't, there is not too much continuity, so you're free to join any time that you're available.

Hope to see you there!
Victoria Kovalchuk

Hello everyone, and welcome back into a new semester!  We're going to get our Faith, Reason & Science discussions going again this Friday.  I have been interested in this atheist thinker Alain de Botton for a bit, and now he has an intriguing new book out entitled "Religion for Atheists."  It looks like he gave a TED talk on some of the same content, so I thought this might be an interesting place to start.  de Botton says that his goal is to "steal" what's good about religion and make it secular.  Things like education, ordering time, caring about the body, art, he has a long list.  I think this will be fruitful for discussion from a Christian, atheist or agnostic perspective.

I've attached a transcript of the talk as a pdf, or you can view it on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Oe6HUgrRlQ

And as always, if you have ideas of topics or articles for discussion, let me know. Hope you can join us Friday!

Best,

Fitz
