Hi all,
The VAA is excited to have philosophy professor Ross Cameron speaking this week about the problem of evil! Instead of our usual Thursday meeting, we will be meeting on Wednesday at 7pm in New Cabell 411.
Here's the blurb:
"Why would a good God allow such terrible sufferings as we find in our world? This is no doubt a puzzle for the theist. But is it even worse: does it provide an argument for atheism? I will argue that the 'Problem of Evil' should not worry the theist too much. The problem comes in two varieties. The logical problem says that God's existence is logically incompatible with the suffering we find in our world. This problem should be rejected: it relies on assumptions that we have no reason to accept. The evidential problem is better: it says merely that the suffering in the world gives us evidence that there is no God. But while a better argument, it is a profoundly limited one, for this is a conclusion that no theist need deny."
Also, VAA is going to watch "God's Not Dead 2" this Saturday (at the Regal theater off 29)! We'll be leaving grounds at 6:40pm from in front of Thornton Hall. If you want to come, please text me at 804-350-6307 so we can organize enough drivers. If you can drive, please let me know!
Scott
