Hi all,

We have a great meeting planned for this Thursday at 7pm in New Cabell 323. David Edmunds will be speaking on Dakotah spirituality. Here's the description:

The VAA is honored to host Professor David Edmunds, track director of the Global Development Studies track of the Global Studies major. Professor Edmunds holds a PHD in Geography, and will be speaking to us about how his experiences related to Dakotah spirituality have informed his understanding of knowledge systems and child rearing. Professor Edmunds has spent a total of seven years living on Native American reservations in northern California and South Dakota. Professor Edmunds emphasizes the role that Dakotah culture has played in his personal life, as he married a Dakotah woman, and they have a daughter together who is 15% Dakotah by blood. While Professor Edmunds does not by any means claim to be an expert on Dakotah spirituality and spiritual practices, the VAA believes that his strong relationship with the tribe and tribal members offers us the unique opportunity to learn more about what it means to be a spiritual and cultural human in a modern, colonized world.

In addition, our treasurer, Charles, will be collecting dues the next several weeks, starting this week. Dues are only $10! (ten dollars, not ten factorial dollars, though we wouldn't complain) They fund our various social gatherings and parties and let you run/vote for the next president/vice president at the end of the year.

Lastly, as of this afternoon there were a couple of slots still available for our hike this Saturday from 9-2pm at Moorman's river. If you're interested, fill out this form.

Scott
