Howdy friends,

Below is a copy of Bill's email about the faith, science and reason discussion group that meets at 4pm every other Friday at the Center for Christian Study (it's by the Bank of America at the corner). I have attended regularly the past two years and plan on continuing the dialogue this year as well.

If you would like a copy of the chapter we will be discussing tomorrow, email me and I will send it to you! Also, if you can't attend tomorrow but would like to know about future meetings/get on the email list, email me to let me know and I can facilitate that.

If this interests you at all, I highly encourage you to check it out. See some of you there!

Dear (potential) conversation partners in faith and science:

Greetings from the Center for Christian Study. Now that a new academic year has begin, it’s time to restart our ongoing discussion on faith and science. I hope you’ll join us.

As many of you will know, this is a wide-ranging and inclusive group for folks who care about faith or science or both. It’s wide-ranging because we talk about everything from the age of the universe to its fine-tuning, from evolution to intelligent design, from the mind-body problem to the limits of knowledge.

It’s inclusive because our group welcomes students and community folks of widely varying convictions (Christians, atheists, agnostics, and others) who are nonetheless committed to something very rare these days—civil conversation with people who disagree (often strongly) about things that matter.

So we hope that you’ll join the conversation. We’ll meet this semester every other Friday from 4:00-5:00 p.m. at the Study Center, beginning this Friday (Sept 5).

This semester we’ll discuss a book by Karl W. Giberson and Francis S. Collins entitled The Language of Science and Faith: Straight Answers to Genuine Questions. We’ll consider the first chapter: “Do I Have to Believe in Evolution?” I would encourage you to buy this book, but I can also send you a PDF of the first chapter if you’ll let me know you’re coming.

Finally, we’ll have some drinks and refreshments (another reason to let me know if you’re coming). Please feel free to invite your friends or forward this email. I’ll look forward to seeing you on Friday.

Best,

Bill
