Hello VAA,
--
I'm writing to tell you guys about philosophy club, an organization currently run by VAA members. For those who remember phil club from last year, we're still mostly the same down-to-earth undergraduate society dedicated to philosophy and related topics that meets on Fridays, but circumstances have somewhat changed the focus of how the club will be conducted.
Foremost, we've decided that we are instead going to attempt to make the club more accessible, so if you're unfamiliar with phil major jargon you won't feel left behind (hopefully) and weekly meetings will focus on things like articles of note or films or even ideas that members have and want to discuss. Once again, the emphasis is on having fun and broadening our worldviews. We welcome anyone who even remotely wants to address philosophy in a roundabout way. We only ask, as we always have, that we try to stick to scheduled topics and listen to one another's ideas.
Our primary topic of discussion for this week, aside from going over what the club is all about, is Bertrand Russell's The Value of Philosophy. This can be found at http://www.gutenberg.org/files/5827/5827-h/5827-h.htm#link2HCH0015
Also, due to UVA not granting space requests yet, we aren't meeting in our usual Cocke Hall location, but rather at 7PM at Garden II on the East Range. The weather should be nice!
Hope to see you all there!
PS If you want to keep receiving emails from phil club, please respond to stating your wish to be subscribed to the mailing list, because we aren't going to keep broadcasting phil club through the VAA listserv.
