Hey VAA,
After that terrible hurrica- I mean wonderful break, we will have UVa Philosophy Professor Trenton Merricks speak for us at this week's meeting. He has interests in metaphysics, and - as he is a Christian - philosophy of religion. Additionally, he doesn't believe in objects!
But for us, he will be talking about the epistemology of religious belief (that is, what might be legitimate grounds for believing in God, expressing religious convictions, etc.) So, do be critical and inquisitive - as he's expecting an interactive session with lots of questions.
It should be a fun night of exchange for all. The meeting will be held at/during:
New Cabell 411, Tuesday, 7:00 P.M., 11/6
And some forewarnings: Elections will be held at our last meeting of the month, on November 27th. There are three elected positions, President, Vice President, and Events Chair. People who are elected this year will get involved, train, and build a cabinet over the spring, and officially take office in June. If you're interested in an elected or unelected position, let us know. Unelected positions will be determined by executive appointment, and such positions currently include:
- Social Chair
- Treasurer
- Social Media Officer
- PR Officer
- Philanthropy Officer
Want to vote? Well, for the low price of 10 dollars, you can pay VAA dues to earn the right of political participation! Not everything we do is cheap, and collecting money helps us continue to have nice events for the group. Paying dues also will earn you a goodie back which includes Richard Dawkins bumper stickers, so that you can make sure your house gets egged next Halloween.
Happy voting (for our club, and the U.S. government tomorrow!)
See you then!
John Kubinski
