All,

Here is some information about a discussion group at the Christian Study Center. They are meeting this afternoon at 4:00 P.M (until 5:00). I know there was some interest in engaging Christians, and I have been personally encouraged by the director to ask atheists to attend, so you'll be more than welcome. I myself will be there, hope to see some of you as well.

(The location is right by the corner, turn down the street where the bank is:

Center for Christian Study
128 Chancellor Street )

Dear friends in faith and science:

This is to remind you that our biweekly Faith, Reason, and Science reading group reconvenes this Friday, Sept 9, at 4:00 p.m. here at the Center for Christian Study. I’m using the word “reconvene” advisedly, hoping that will make the decision more automatic for those of you who were involved last year. And, of course, we’re always delighted to have new folks join us!

This year we’ll be discussing John Polkinghorne’s book, Exploring Reality. Some of you will know that he was a physicist at Cambridge for a number of years before becoming an Anglican priest (and prolific writer). You’ll notice that I’ve attached the reading for this week (the preface and a very short chapter 1) to this email. I hope you’ll buy or borrow the book (there are a few available at the bookstore here at the Center), but this will get us started on our discussion.

It only seems right to begin the year with some refreshments and brain food (yeah, probably Dunkin Donuts), so I’ll take care of that. If you let me know you’re coming, that will help with food counts. Come anyway, of course—even at the last moment.

And bring some friends, naturally.

Hope to see you on Friday.

Bill
