Case Presentation Resources

Thank you to Katherine Dotten from the University of Virginia's College at Wise for her case presentation! Her slides are attached. Please reach out to Katherine at if you have any questions or further recommendations.

Katherine wanted feedback, recommendations, and best practices for engaging students while confronting and critiquing harmful media messages in a meaningful, relatable, and sustainable way. Recommendations that the group shared can be found in Padlet. Below are some highlights:

  • Work with student groups to spread awareness and education. Recruit students from influential communities (e.g. student athletes) as peer educators.
  • Students are arriving to campus with various levels of sex education and healthy relationship education, so meet them where they are and without judgement. Use an asset-based approach.
  • Use a spectrum activity – put relationship characteristics on a spectrum of healthy to unhealthy and discuss the nuances (e.g. green flag, yellow flag, red flag).
  • Host a watch party with popular media (e.g. Euphoria) and facilitate a discussion about the relationship dynamics.
  • Integrate media literacy into all programming.

Thank you all for your participation!

Didactic Presentation Resources

Thank you to Syd Ovitt for sharing your story with us! She discussed her in-person and virtual advocacy and activism with and on behalf of student survivors and discussed the founding and management of her organization Explain the Asterisk. Reach out to Syd at if you have any questions. Please visit https://www.explaintheasterisk.org/ to learn more about Syd’s work.
