Case Presentation Resources

Thank you to Tricia Chesson from the University of Virginia for her case presentation! Her presentation slides are attached. Please reach out to Tricia at if you have any questions or further recommendations.

Tricia wanted feedback, recommendations, and best practices for building relationships with staff who are not supportive of prevention work, as well as maintaining collaborative relationships amid staff turnover. Below are recommendations the group shared:

  • Get buy-in from students! (build relationships with students, recruit students to co-present, ask for their feedback on programming, etc.)
  • Voices for Change was suggested as an alternative to EVERFI. - https://www.getinclusive.com/title-ix-student-training
  • Look at your institution’s Clery data and see if there are patterns of harm in specific environments (ex: student athletes, Greek Life, etc.). Connect and collaborate with staff in those areas to provide tailored programming.
  • Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) was recommended. They come to campuses to offer programming for athletics and other student populations. - https://mvpstrat.com/
  • Get involved in your campus’s coordinated community response team (CCRT) or other multidisciplinary task force.
  • Connect with professionals outside of Student Affairs.
  • Connect with staff who do programming at your local SV/DV agency. - https://vsdvalliance.org/get-help-ayuda/
  • If you have a homegrown program, train professional staff from across campus who are passionate about violence prevention so they can facilitate the program. This is a cost-effective method and allows folks who may not be traditional partners to get involved and reach a wider student audience.
  • "Don't Cancel That Class" – some campuses have an on-demand training model where faculty can request an educational program for a date when they will be unable to teach a class but don't want to cancel it. This will also help reach a wider student audience. These classroom programs could be facilitated by staff as well as peer educators.
  • Collaborate with campus police / public safety staff.

Didactic Presentation Resources

Thank you to Maddy LaCure from the Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault for her didactic presentation on environmental and situational prevention! Maddy’s presentation slides are attached. Reach out to her at  if you have any questions. Please find MCASA’s toolkit on Environmental and Situational Strategies for Sexual Violence Prevention here: https://mcasa.org/prevention/environmental-and-situational-prevention

Bonus Zoom Tip (thank you Maddy for this tech support!)

If you are sharing PowerPoint slides on Zoom and still want to be able to see your presenter notes:

  1. Put your PowerPoint in presenter mode. This will show your slides and your notes.
  2. Click Show Taskbar at the top of your screen. This allows you to click back into Zoom.
  3. Go back to Zoom and when you click share screen, click 'Advanced' at the top, and then select 'Share portion of screen'. This will only show the slide and then you can view your notes.

Thank you all for your participation!
