Operations and Planning at The University of Tampa has an opening for Director of Student Care and Advocacy. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Operations and Planning, the Director contributes to work of Operations and Planning functions, with a specific emphasis on creating an environment that encourages responsible and safe behaviors and as well as outreach to students in distress.  Working collaboratively across The University and in the Tampa community, the Director engages other University offices on the management of high-risk student cases and emergency support systems. The Director also creates learning opportunities in these areas for student, staff and faculty groups.  

 

Responsibilities
1.    Lead the Victim Advocacy Program, including assignment and tracking of cases, providing direct victim services, administer the bi-annual campus climate survey, recruit and coordinate campus advocates, and provide communication as necessary.
2.    Chair the Reducing Assault and Interpersonal Violence Educational Network (RAIVEN), a group of faculty, staff and students charged with encouraging awareness of interpersonal violence in the campus community.
3.    Participate as a member in the Hillsborough County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART).
4.    Serve as a resource for University Title IX efforts, providing information on advocacy and victim services issues.
5.    Be a key participant in the Spartan Support Program*, including tracking of cases, serving as a non-clinical case manager, and coordination and communication as necessary.
6.    Chair the Bias Education Resource Team (BERT) for the campus population, directly responding to incidents of bias, educating community members involved, coordinating communication and efforts between parties and university offices.
7.    Participate in the Dean of Students Diversity Advisory Group providing BERT updates and educating participants on the campus climate as it relates to DEI
8.    Provide training on responding to incidents related to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) for campus departments as well as community agencies.
9.    Formalize, assess and revise victim advocacy and bias education response processes as necessary
10.    Hire, train and supervise student peer educators for BERT and RAIVEN
11.    Design and monitor the systemic approach to safety-related training for students, staff and faculty, making improvements as needed including bystander intervention programs.
12.    Participate as a member of the Emergency Communication Group, be a trained emergency broadcast administrator, and be an active member in campus emergency decision-making.
13.    Serve as a member of the Campus Safety Committee and Night Operations Group.
14.    Collaborate with the Department of Campus Safety and other University offices to provide training on student-based relevant and timely topics as well as establishing and updating student-based processes.
15.    Oversee the non-residential facilities Fire Drill Safety process
16.    Participate in national emergency management trainings such as ICS through FEMA and IAEM national organization.
17.    Maintains an up-to-date working knowledge of all related technical applications, software, and programs.
18.    Perform on-call duties as scheduled.
19.    Design and maintain an assessment schedule that provides for continuous improvement in the areas of responsibility.  
20.    Represent the Vice President and the Assistant Vice President in campus committees as assigned (i.e. Orientation Work Group) and high profile special events as well as in their absence.

21. Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.


Qualifications

1. Master’s degree in higher education, counselor education, psychology, sociology, public health or related field and five years of professional experience. 

2. Experience working in higher education in at least two of the following areas:  emergency response, crisis management, residence life, counseling, case management, student conduct, and/or mediation

3. Experience in victim advocacy issues with advocacy certification preferred.

4. In-depth knowledge of and experience with core diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) concepts and practices.

5. Knowledge of postsecondary education law, particularly as it applies to student conduct, DEI, safety, and related issues, including Title IX, VAWA, and Clery Act.

6. Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff members as well as collaborative community partners.

7. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

8. Demonstrated experience as an effective trainer and educator.

9. Demonstrated ability to mediate and problem solve.

10. Commitment to the education and development of the whole student.

11. Willingness to work a flexible schedule.

12. Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.

13. Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.
