Free and Low Cost Resources From The State University of New York
Dear Colleagues,
We are honored by the commitment of New York’s Governor and SUNY’s Chancellor to stand up the Center for Advanced Research in Reducing the Impact of Violence
in Education (ARRIVE). We look forward to continuing to work with colleges and universities, government agencies and community partners to develop low-cost, accessible resources, guidance documents, and trainings as we work together to reduce violence and
harassment on our campuses and in our communities.
Please join us for a special fireside chat with Jim Moore of the Department of Education and please consider submitting a proposal for this summer’s SPECTRUM
conference. Well over 300 institutions in 46 states are already using the RAPID resource. It is free, customizable, accurate, and available right now. Best wishes to all for good health.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth

ARRIVE Center Announcement
We are pleased to announce the
Center for Advanced Research in Reducing the Impact of Violence in Education (ARRIVE).
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced a four-point plan to reduce sexual violence in educational institutions as part of the state’s 2021 Women's Agenda:
·
National Hub for Policy Development: Establishing the
Center for Advanced Research in Reducing the Impact of Violence in Education (ARRIVE) to oversee the development of enforceable policies, student-focused training and outreach programs to combat sexual violence on college campuses;
·
Expanding the Reach of SUNY’s Student Conduct Institute Resources: SUNY's
Student Conduct Institute will continue to expand its resources and engagement. SCI member institutions educate more than three million college students nationwide. By the start of the 2022 academic year, SUNY's Student Conduct Institute will seek to expand
to 1,000 institutions, ensuring at least five million college students nationwide can benefit from New York’s leadership and program expertise on confronting sexual violence.
·
Releasing SUNY’s Nation-Leading Sexual & Interpersonal Violence Prevention And Response Course to More Colleges and Universities: SUNY
will release its trauma-informed and survivor-centered Sexual & Interpersonal Violence Prevention And Response Course for free to any college or university across the country. Originally developed in 2017, the course is a customizable online training system
to assist colleges and universities in training students in the prevention of sexual, interpersonal and related violence.
·
Social and Digital Campaign to Raise Awareness: SUNY and
the Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence will create and launch the “I'm Asking for a Friend” social and digital campaign to help students identify and prevent sexual assault and domestic or dating violence. The campaign will also alert students
of support services that are available.

SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras said, “Today's announcement by Governor Cuomo is further proof that our state will continue to lead in this effort with comprehensive
policies, shared practices, and resources. SUNY is recognized across the nation as a think tank on the legal issues surrounding due diligence with any allegation or complaint, and developing policies to protect all students, particularly LGBTQIA+ students
who are disproportionately impacted by sexual and interpersonal violence and less likely to seek services or report incidents.”

Free Webinar: The Clery Act at 30
March 19, 2021 2:00 -3:30 PM EST
In November of 2020, the Clery Act turned 30 years old. In the weeks prior, the Department of Education archived the Clery Act Handbook and replaced it with
an Appendix to the Financial Aid Handbook. The Department of Education has prioritized Clery Act compliance and has investigated several institutions for violations of the law. Now, with a new Administration, we may see a different approach to the Clery Act
and related obligations.
In this fireside chat, Jim Moore, the Senior Advisor for Clery Act Compliance
and Campus Safety at the United States Department of Education will join Joe Storch, SUNY Associate Counsel for a wide-ranging discussion. The goal of the discussion will be for attendees to obtain practical information that they can use to address compliance
challenges and best serve students. A basic knowledge of the Clery Act and related Higher Education Act obligations is assumed for attendees.
Attendance is free, but registration is required.

Free Training for Responsible Authorities Under Clery Act & Title IX
The team at The State University of New York is pleased to announce
RAPID (Responsible Authority Proficiency in Incident Disclosure) Training.
RAPID is a free, customizable and high quality training designed for colleges and universities to quickly, efficiently, and accurately train responsible authorities under the Clery Act, Title IX, and campus policy.
Colleges and universities across the country are working to educate employees about reporting crimes and violations, including Campus Security Authorities
under the Clery Act and individuals with authority under Title IX, and we recognize that identifying, tracking, and training these professionals can be difficult (especially in an era when budgets are increasingly tight). Despite these challenges, providing
effective training to these professionals who are so key in bringing information forward is critical, so institutions can properly report and respond to crime, violence, and harassment. RAPID offers a free, accurate, and customizable solution for institutions
to use on their campus.
Free customization for Student Conduct Institute Members.
The SUNY Student Conduct Institute will customize the RAPID resource one
time for all SCI institutional members at no cost.
We are grateful to Ramapo College for their partnership and support and to everyone who contributed to make RAPID a success.
