Hi SAPC listserv – Sorry for not responding sooner. (I just coming up for air after a grant proposal deadline!). I’ve pasted in below a response to Marissa M’s original email from my colleague, Marissa Korbel. Marissa helps staff a Victim Rights Law Center privacy TA project that focuses in part on privacy for survivors of campus-based gendered violence, and she wanted to make sure you’re aware that she’s an available (and terrific!) resource. – Jessie
From: Marissa Korbel
Hi all,
I am a staff attorney at the Victim Rights Law Center focused primarily on campus survivors privacy issues. The answer to a question like this requires some in-depth review of state-specific privacy laws, VAWA confidentiality, Title IX, Clery, and FERPA. It is usually much more complicated than "confidential" or "not confidential."
I am OVW-funded to answer questions like this, and would encourage anyone to reach out to me directly, or to an attorney in your jurisdiction, or to another national TA provider 🙂
Thanks Marissa (excellent name, btw) for bringing up a great issue!
Warmly,
Marissa Korbel

Hi Everyone,
We have peer educators that we consider confidential by way of our grant/role. We have applied for a continuation and will apply for an extension which will give me more time regarding decisions if those are approved by OVW… But nothing is promised so I will proceed with my question:
Do you have peer educators who serve as confidential resource on your campus? · If so, how?
If it is helpful, our peer educators are not paid employees. Please feel free to email me back directly or I can talk to you via phone if you have input.
Thanks in advance for any support or guidance you may offer J
Best,
Marissa
