Those of us working in the movement understand that sexual violence can be prevented. However, helping those we work with, members of our communities, and even those closest to us understand the concept of prevention can sometimes be challenging. So what are the most effective ways to talk about sexual violence and prevention?

For the past five years, we have worked closely with the research team at Berkeley Media Studies Group (BMSG) to answer this question. Our recent publication, Moving toward prevention: a guide for reframing sexual violence, explores how sexual violence is commonly framed, ways we can shift the conversation to focus on prevention, and tips for engaging the media. We've also created a Media relations toolkit, which offers practical tips on preparing for interviews, writing press releases, and other ways to engage the media to elevate sexual violence prevention.

In addition to exploring the resources above, you're invited you to join us for Ask a Researcher, a live event next Thursday, October 11 from 3:00-3:45 PM EST where we'll be sitting down with Pamela Mejia, MS, MPH, Head of Research at BMSG, to learn more about these resources. There will also be a Q&A, some come prepared with your questions about how you can effectively communicate about sexual violence and prevention in your community.
