Harvard University’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences is looking for applicants for a newly established position, Program Officer for Title IX and Professional Conduct!
Duties & Responsibilities Reporting jointly to the Associate Dean for FAS Faculty Affairs and the Associate Dean for Human Resources in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS), this newly established position
will be responsible for managing and coordinating the prevention, response, and training efforts in connection with professional conduct (including but not limited to Title IX as it relates to interactions among FAS faculty, staff, students and academic appointees)
on behalf of FAS. This person will act as an intermediary liaison between both groups, helping to project manage issues and concerns that involve both FAS Faculty Affairs and HR. · Receive and respond in a timely way to disclosures and reports of unprofessional conduct, including sexual and gender based harassment, involving faculty, staff, researchers, and teaching assistants. · Explain relevant policies and procedures to potential complainants, respondents, and third parties reporters. · Work with appropriate colleagues to implement interim measures and accommodations. Conduct informal fact-finding and assess community well-being and potential safety concerns. Elevate concerns to appropriate channels as appropriate. · Lead Title IX and professional conduct training sessions for both faculty and staff audiences. · Develop and disseminate educational materials to clarify University and FAS sexual and gender-based harassment policies and procedures. · Plan and implement community-wide strategies for reducing the incidence of harassment, including sexual and gender-based harassment. Assess potential community safety concerns that pertain to these issues and take steps to address them promptly and effectively.
· Ensure that leadership is apprised of Title IX and professional conduct issues; create and implement reporting procedures; maintain systems for monitoring compliance with Title IX and the Clery Act. Work closely with FAS Administrative Deans on issues of professional conduct that involve faculty and staff. Work closely with other constituents (e.g. University Title IX Office, Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, Bureau of Study Counsel, other Title IX Coordinators, etc.) on strategy, communications, best practices, and coordination of the University’s overall response to Title IX issues. Basic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years of experience working with Title IX, VAWA and related federal and state laws; and at least one year of experience working in a higher education environment interacting with faculty, administrators, and/or students on Title IX-related issues. Additional Qualifications Advanced degree and higher education experience preferred. Extensive legal knowledge of Title IX, VAWA, and the Clery Act required. Experience working with faculty and staff in difficult situations requiring tact, discretion, and empathy. Demonstrated ability to exercise high-level of discretion and good judgment, and ability to quickly establish credibility with a broad range of constituents of all backgrounds. Strong written and oral communication skills are required; must have demonstrated ability to produce high-quality written work and to effectively give presentations to small and large groups.
