I don't think so. FERPA allows -- but does not require -- schools to release
information about findings of responsibility for conduct that would be a
crime, including sexual violence. However, most schools choose not to do so,
often out of a concern that the information could lead to the identification
of the individuals involved. [There is a case against Liberty University
going through the courts in which the university actually released the name
of the individual found responsible, with the student responding by suing
both the university and the reporting student for defamation.] While that
might prevent you from pursuing your thesis below, it also gives the lie to
the claim in many respondent lawsuits (and the press) that universities
always find respondents (or, male respondents) responsible or always find
them not responsible -- there is simply no information, as far as I know, to
back up either claim.

Some schools do release information when, e.g., there are enough findings to
make the information non-identifiable. Duke has issues a report on this for
the last two years. We think it helps to show that we take the issue
seriously and that our process if fair and balanced. It also would help us
counter any claims that we always find one way or the other.

Hey folks -

Is there any data out there that points to a percentage of how many
perpetrators of sexual violence receive a campus sanction and/or criminal
conviction?

Just trying to figure out a way to back up the statement that victim blaming
can contribute to authorities being less likely to hold offenders accountable
- or some connection along those lines.

Thank you!
