The Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations (OIIR) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is accepting applications and nominations
for Assistant Director, Women’s Resources Center. The Women’s Resources Center is a programming unit of OIIR and is responsible for improving the campus climate for women by developing and implementing programs that address women's issues and gender-related
concerns. The Center works with individuals and groups to identify personal, social, economic and political issues that adversely affect women, and offers support through counseling, advocacy, education, financial awards and social action. The Center’s programs
lead to greater equity, retention, advancement and empowerment of women students. The successful candidate will be working on a campus with an academically talented and diverse student population of nearly 45,000 students, including
46 percent women, 23 percent international students, 15 percent Asian American students, 5 percent African American students, and 9 percent Hispanic/Latino students. The campus is located in Champaign-Urbana (total population 128,600) in east-central Illinois,
140 miles south of Chicago. For additional information, see http://oiir.illinois.edu/womens-center. The Assistant Director reports to the Director and is a 100%, full-time, academic professional staff member. Primary responsibilities include planning
and coordinating programs and events for the Center, advising student organizations, and supervising interns and volunteers. As a Title IX Confidential Center, the Assistant Director also serves as a confidential advisor to students who have experienced sexual
assault, sexual harassment, stalking, or dating/domestic violence.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Gender-Based Programming:
· Assist in developing, planning, and implementing educational, recreational, social and cultural programs that promote the success of women students and
foster better understanding of the needs and issues of both women and men on campus.
· Provide advising and leadership development related to planning, content, and implementation of programs and activities to student organizations that
focus on women’s and gender-related issues.
· Establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with various constituencies in the university, including both academic and student affairs
units, and in the community to enrich awareness related to women’s and gender issues on campus.
· Regularly attend meetings and events supporting women students and student organizations, including working evening and weekend hours as needed.
· Assist in the preparation of budget, progress reports, and operating procedures.
· Assist with assessment of programs and activities.
· Assist with maintenance of in-house library and media collection, including assisting with operational procedures, collection development, purchase and
evaluation.
· In the absence of the Director, the Assistant Director will assume responsibility and provide management for the operation of the Women’s Resources Center.
· Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Director.
Campus/Community Outreach
· Provide outreach, especially to diverse student groups, to engage them in center activities. Help promote, publicize and market activities and services
of the women’s center on campus.
· Assist in planning and implementing activities during Women’s History Month, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month and other
annual events sponsored by the Women’s Resources Center.
Student Support
· Help train, supervise and coordinate interns and volunteers as it relates to programming and center operations.
· Assist in providing information, advocacy, referral and other direct services to students seeking assistance at the women’s center.
· Serve as a resource person for students, staff, and faculty interested in women’s and gender issues and the services/functions of the women’s center.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Master’s degree required in Education, Gender & Women’s Studies, Social Work or a related field.
· Two years full-time experience working with women students in higher education, secondary school, or a community agency.
· Demonstrated commitment to social activism around issues affecting women and all forms of social oppression.
· Strong written and oral communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Knowledge of women’s issues in higher education and issues facing women in science and engineering.
· Ability to understand and articulate gender-related needs and concerns from a perspective that includes the intersections of gender, race, ethnicity,
sexual orientation and other significant aspects of individual and cultural identity.
· Sensitivity to, awareness of, and demonstrated experience with the educational, social, developmental and cultural concerns of women students.
· Knowledge and experience working with graphic and web-based software.
· Experience supervising students/entry-level staff.
· Experience developing and executing educational, social, recreational and cultural programs.
· Experience designing and implementing programs focusing on women and gender identity.
· Professional experience advising and creating leadership development opportunities for students and/or student organizations.
· Experience developing community and public engagement programs, and public speaking.
· Experience in marketing and communications (e.g., electronic newsletters, websites, social media).
· Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
· Experience supervising and training student staff (undergraduate and/or graduate) and volunteers.
Salary and Appointment Status: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time (100%), benefits-eligible,
academic professional position appointed on a 12-month basis. Proposed starting date is October
