Hello, I hope this emails finds you well….hopefully you’re enjoying some peace and rest this summer! I’m writing (again) about the National Vision Wall, which is part of the We Are Here USA campaign.
We Are Here USA came out of Duke University and it has the goal of at least one school in each state participating in their sexual assault prevention art installation. Participating schools are asked to put up a “wall” in a central location
with the same prompt (“Imagine a world without sexual violence…what’s different?”). Participants write answers to the prompt on stickies and put those stickies on the wall throughout its time up. The event culminates with a public reading, during which someone
reads the prompt (“Imagine a world without sexual violence…what’s different?) and then all the responses on the sticky notes – creating one co-written, community poem.
Here’s a video from the public reading at Duke University last year. American University participated in this event last year, and we found it to be very effective. It was easy to implement with high visibility and impact. AU was recently designated as a flagship school for the campaign so I’m happy to answer
any questions you may have about the event. Attached is a photo from the Vision Wall at AU last September; AU marketing materials we used; and an informative handout from the We Are Here USA folks.
A few changes for this year and updates from my last email:
If your school is interested in participating, you can contact the organization at
