Dear Prevention Colleagues,

Today the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a new technical assistance document titled, Sexual Violence on Campus: Strategies for Prevention. In the report, the CDC suggests hiring dedicated prevention staff, using data to make decisions about prevention, and institutionalizing prevention so that prevention is a part of everyone's job on campus.

PreventConnect Campus will be highlighting this report in a web conference on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 11am PT / 2pm ET. Join us to hear from the authors and learn more about the CDC's continued efforts to address sexual violence on campus. Please see below for the web conference registration announcement.

Since the charge in 2014 from the White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault, CDC has continued it efforts to address this important issue. As a result, CDC has released a new technical assistance document titled, Sexual Violence on Campus: Strategies for Prevention. This document is meant to assist sexual violence prevention practitioners in the planning and implementation of sexual violence prevention strategies on college and university campuses. The document provides actionable steps to strengthen campus sexual violence prevention efforts. The resource also introduces a framework for campus sexual violence prevention efforts that includes five components: comprehensive prevention, audience, infrastructure, partnerships and sustainability, and evaluation. In addition, CDC in collaboration with the American Public Health Association (APHA) funds Campus Sexual Violence Action Planning Teams to engage in an action planning process that utilizes the campus sexual violence prevention framework in their campus-based prevention implementation. In this web conference, we will overview the framework components of the CDC's sexual violence prevention document and the process of the Action Planning Teams as important segments of CDC's campus-based sexual violence prevention efforts. These efforts have technical assistance implications for prevention practitioners in an action planning process to implement campus-based sexual violence prevention, and ultimately move beyond compliance to change campus culture and climate.
