Colleagues,

A doctoral student I work with is offering to do a climate survey with institutions willing to take part; a great opportunity to get data on your student population!  Please contact him directly if you are interested.

My name is Neil Best and I am conducting a research study about what aspects of a campus climate and which institutional policies help to prevent sexual violence.  Research has consistently shown that 25% to 43% of college students admit to behaviors that fall within the legal definition of sexual assault, and that 4% to 12% of students admit to attempting or completing rape. Unfortunately, those numbers have remained relatively unchanged over 30 years and some evidence has even suggested that prevention programs are only successful with the students who are least likely to commit sexual assault.  However, most prevention research focuses on the individual characteristics of perpetrators instead of the campus climate.

My study will utilize the ARC3 campus climate survey on sexual violence to study the institutional characteristics that are most effective at preventing sexual violence.  The ARC3 survey is a free and validated instrument that was developed by some of the leading researchers in the field of sexual violence prevention.

Have you discussed or decided on a campus climate survey instrument for the early spring of 2017?  Are you already planning one and willing to share the results for comparison to a larger sample?

·         This study (#15-16) has been approved by Azusa Pacific University’s (APU) Institutional Review Board (IRB).

·         The preferred timeline for data collection is early spring, 2017.

·         Participants will be given benchmarking data between their school and the whole data set.

·         The campus climate survey for this study is the Administrator Researcher Campus Climate Collaborative (ARC3)

·         The survey is anonymous and is not collecting any identifying information from students.

·         The identity of participating institutions will also be strictly confidential and will not be used in any publications.

·         The desired sample size for results to be statistically reliable is a minimum of 100 students.

I hope you will consider joining over 40 other schools who have already agreed to participate in this study; if you have any questions please contact me at (724) 462-0390 or .  I look forward to your response.
