Hello all, I am facilitating FemSex, a Female Sexuality group that has been adopted and adapted by many campuses over the years. I work for the Counseling Center on our campus as a counselor, and I am also the Relationship Violence and Sexual Assault
Prevention Coordinator. The group is considered a psychoeducational group, not a therapy group. One of the topics is boundary violation- during that session, group members would be welcome to share their own experiences. I am wondering if this could be
tricky because technically the group is not a therapy group, and though I am a licensed counselor protected by confidentiality during individual and group therapy sessions, I don’t know if that would translate to FemSex group members being protected by confidentiality
(since outside of my role as counselor, I would be a CSA). Is there any way around this? I want to make sure group members feel completely comfortable sharing any information without fear that it might have to be reported, and I want to avoid censoring them, if at all possible. If any of you
on this listserv have dealt with a situation similar to this, or have any insight or advice, please feel free to contact me personally.
Thank you so much! Sincerely, Kate Emmerich, LMSW Senior Counselor/OASIS Coordinator ETSU Counseling Center 345 D.P. Culp Center Johnson City, TN 37614 (423)-439-4841 |
