Dear Colleagues,

This summer from June 8-July 2, I will be offering an online, graduate level (master's or doctoral) course called "Gender Based Violence on Campus."  It makes a great elective for students interested in the content, or in reality, most anyone who is or will be working in higher education and needs to know about gender based violence.  It also makes for a great professional development experience for people interested in learning about sexual violence, who want an academic grounding in related literature.

The content will include an exploration of topics including the prevalence of sexual assault in the U.S., theories and research regarding its causes from a wide variety of theoretical perspectives, perpetrator characteristics, the role of alcohol, how pornography use affects sexual violence, prevention approaches, the experience of being a survivor (both female and male), Title IX, the Campus SAVE act, and other legal/policy issues.

Obviously, this course is right in line with my scholarship and public service, so I do think it will be a special opportunity for students to enhance their knowledge and skills in an important area.

The process to enroll for students outside Oklahoma State is fairly straight-forward -- enrolling as a special student through our graduate college.

I have opened this course up to students from other programs in the past, and that has worked very well.  Many have used it as an elective for their programs.  I enjoy the diversity of perspectives such students have to offer, and it enriches everyone's experience.  Of course there is tuition -- can't get around that.  Last I heard (please don't hold me to this exactly!) tuition was a little under $3,000 for the course for students outside Oklahoma.

I hope you will consider taking the class!  Also, please forward this email to students who might be interested, or even to staff who might want to take some time this summer to sharpen their knowledge base.

I am happy to have students from most anywhere -- they add a lot to the diversity of experiences in the course.

Thank you for forwarding widely, as appropriate!
