Syracuse University is seeking a Case Manager to join the team in the Office of Student Assistance. 

 

The case manager supports students and their families to manage crises, life traumas, and other concerns or barriers that impede success. This is a specialized position which blends collaboration and consultation with colleagues in the schools/colleges, health care providers both on and off campus, as well as other support resources with functions of non-clinical student consultation, program coordination of student referrals, systems development for reporting and maintenance of student cases, and leadership in addressing factors which contribute to student attrition and improve student success. The case manager will work to address the needs of students who struggle in such areas as psychological health, physical health, crime victimization, relationship violence issues, sexual assault, economic concerns, and social adjustment through a variety of interventions, referrals, and follow-up services. The Case Manager will respond to daily case management functions including but not limited to: student emergencies; consults with members of the University Community; and parent/student inquiries and concerns. The Case Manager will assist with programming groups related to the Office of Student Assistance and the Health and Wellness Portfolio.

 

Qualifications

·         Masters degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Higher Education Counseling with 3-5 years’ experience, preferably in a higher education setting.

·         Prior work experience in case management preferred.

·         Experience supporting students with issues related to sexual and relationship violence and understanding of Title IX and other SRV legislation.

 

Job-Specific Qualifications

·         Experience utilizing student development and case management models to aid in the personal growth and development of college aged individuals.

·         Demonstrated skills in a variety of crisis/student support related areas such as: psychological distress, relationship violence, sexual assault, issues related to several medical concerns, family of origin, academic difficulty, identity, substance abuse, eating disorders, adjustment etc.

·         Demonstrated knowledge of conflict mediation and crisis de-escalation.

·         Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

·         Proven excellence in time management and ability to multitask.

·         Ability to think critically and solve problems, as well as handle a large case load of students.

·         Good judgment and ability to handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion.

·         Demonstrated cultural competence and inclusiveness in working with populations of diverse cultures and identities in addressing issues of diversity, health, and social justice.

·         Experience in relationship building and accessing local and national resources for students.

·         Demonstrated ability to build and foster relationships with colleagues and outside support providers.

 

Responsibilities

·         Serve as a case manager addressing the needs of students in distress. This includes but is not limited to: mental health issues, physical health issues, victimization, life traumas, and any other barriers that may impede a student’s success.

·         Manage office processes including but not limited to the maintenance of records, leaves of absence, readmission, and absence notification.

·         Assist in coordination of the procedural advising program including recruitment and training of procedural advisors as well as support to students involved in the conduct process.

·         Assist in the development and implementation of department policies and procedures including but not limited to outreach and education, campus wellness initiatives, departmental publications and social media.

·         In the absence of the director, provide support as instructed for the SVP and/or the AVP in responding to campus crises. This may include being on-call nights and weekends as needed.

·         Develop and maintain relationships with local treatment providers, hospitals, victim advocate resources, and law enforcement agencies as appropriate to supporting students.

·         Assist in the development and implementation of department policies and procedures related to sexual assault and relationship violence.
