Here’s the NCO language from our template, which we personalize and add to as needed for any particular case. We also talk about navigating shared spaces by indicating that they should consider themselves to be repellant magnets: if they see each other, they should both move in the opposite direction. Hope this is helpful—

No Contact Order: TEMPLATE

Middlebury College

This No Contact Order is being issued to prohibit contact between Student 1 and Student 2, and provides guidelines for and restrictions of behaviors and communications between them.

Student 1 and Student 2 shall have no physical contact, verbal contact, or written contact with each other, directly or indirectly through any third parties at any time (this includes but is not limited to any contact via mail, text messages, e-mails, telephone calls, social media tags or references, and/or the use of any other electronic means of communication). Each student shall also make every reasonable attempt to avoid eye contact with each other, and shall maintain a distance of 25 feet from each other at all times.

Student 1 shall not enter the third floor of Smith Hall. Student 2 shall not enter the second floor of Barnes Hall.

Student 1 and Student 2 are both advised of the importance of keeping this matter and the information contained in this No Contact Order as confidential as possible. Questions about how to navigate potentially challenging situations should be explored with the judicial affairs officer.

Both students are prohibited from engaging in any acts of retaliation against each other as defined by the College’s Policy Against Sexual Misconduct, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence and Stalking (see “Definitions: Retaliation”).

If either student engages or attempts to engage in any of the prohibited acts defined above, or if either student fails to adhere to any other provision of this No Contact Order, it is the responsibility of the complaining party to report this immediately to his/her Commons dean, the judicial affairs officer, or the Office of Public Safety.

The No Contact Order is not a disciplinary sanction, and it will not appear on a student’s disciplinary record. However, a knowing violation of this No Contact Order is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action up to and including suspension or expulsion. (A “knowing” violation is defined as follows: whether the student knew or reasonably should have known that his/her behavior constituted a violation of this No Contact Order). This No Contact Order is in effect until further notice.

Finally, the overarching goal of this No Contact Order is to eliminate contact and communication, verbal or non-verbal, direct or indirect, between the involved parties. Students are therefore expected to honor both the language and the spirit of this agreement in all actions.

Good Morning,

Would anyone be willing to provide any sample language used in administrative no contact orders, particularly around not going to the other person’s residence and/or how to be in common spaces like dining halls?
