I recently posted a request to the listserv inquiring about the organization/program: 

http://sashaa.org/. I only heard from a couple folks (both were favorable), so I contacted the organization and asked a graduate student to help in researching the org. We found the following information:

 

SASHAA is a newer project of the Americans Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center, which is listed on the The U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs website. AODVC was founded 16 years ago by Paula Lucas, a domestic violence survivor who fled an abusive partner in Dubai with her three sons. Her memoir’s website: www.harvestingstonesbook.com

AODVC and SASHAA have a 24-hour hotline: 866-USWOMEN and  and an email aimed at prevention: so that travelers can email before they leave and get information about the country they are traveling to, including how to reach SASHAA from overseas.

 

Their case managers have years of domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy training/experience, in the US and abroad. They have a network of licensed counselors who work with them so they can connect our clients who request therapy to them, free of charge. There is a network of trusted attorneys they've compiled who work with their clients as well. They can also connect people with country specific information including safe medical, legal and law enforcement options.

The organization was awarded 250,000$ Grant Duration: 08/01/2010-07/31/2013

 

The goals of this demonstration project are to provide services to American victims of domestic violence who are living permanently or temporarily overseas, including those who live on military bases. The center will:

•	Develop protocols for responding to American victims of domestic violence abroad.
•	Produce bulletins that address the gaps in service providers' knowledge of domestic violence victims and their dependents living abroad.
•	Produce a final report that discusses lessons learned.

During its third year of funding, the center will produce a plan for sustaining the project after OVC funding ends and will finalize bulletins that support replicating this project.

They do have a couple resources they are finalizing including online chat and a resource card that should be ready in a couple weeks.

 

I hope this helps- I am recommending it as a resource to our study abroad personnel and plan to check back in on their site and resources before we deliver training in the fall for students traveling.
