Position Title:

Director of Development and Communications

 

Reporting To:

New York City Metropolitan Area and Fairfield County, Connecticut

Founded in 2014, Culture of Respect is a nationally focused independent nonprofit organization to strengthen sexual assault prevention efforts on college campuses.

Position Summary:

 

The new position of Director of Development and Communications (DDC) will join this young, growing, issues-driven organization.  Working closely with executive director, staff and executive board, the DDC will be responsible for all fundraising-related initiatives and activities of the organization.  She/he is directly responsible for the development and implementation of the Annual Giving Plan including cultivating and maintaining relationships with new and existing donors and supporters; developing and building a Major Gifts Program; and developing an implementation plan for foundation, government, corporate, service club and other grants.  In addition, the DDC will be responsible for authoring, editing, and/or reviewing public written communications, including newsletters, blogs, articles, etc. As a member of the senior management team, the DDC will participate in strategic planning and budgeting initiatives in addition to problem solving. She/he will work within the guidelines, policies and mission of the organization and will be accountable and responsible for specific projects as assigned.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Development Oversight

•            Direct, plan and coordinate fundraising efforts of the organization.

•            Organize and attend meetings to maintain effective communication with current and prospective funders.

•            Recruit qualified volunteers and interns to help carry out fundraising activities and events.

 

Annual Giving

•            Responsible for the development, implementation, management, and evaluation of all activities related to individual giving.

•            Responsible for the development of a Major Gifts Program, including research, identification of potential donors, developing the case for giving and developing and maintaining relationships.

•            Remain current on all legislation and ethical practices pertaining to fundraising.

•            Responsible for the supervision and management of the fundraising database.

•            Compile, maintain and report on Annual Giving Campaign statistics including per donor gift, participation, etc.

•            Analyze and report on trends in the Annual Giving Campaign, identifying opportunities and challenges and developing strategies to ensure goals are met.

 

Foundations, government, corporate and service club funding

•            Research and coordinate funding proposals for charitable foundations, corporate charitable funds, service clubs and other similar funds.

•            Coordinate execution of grants with the organization’s grant writer. 

 

Special events fundraising

•            Develop with the executive director and board ideas on special event fundraising efforts.

•            Organize, coordinate and direct selected fundraising events.

 

Communications

•            Author, edit and/or review public written communications for the organization including newsletters, blogs, fundraising letters, grant proposals and articles.

•            Coordinate and disseminate content to ensure an ongoing, lively, timely social media presence.

 

Qualifications:

 

•            University degree in allied field and five years minimum experience in a mid-level development position.

•            Demonstrated strong ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing for all development- and communications-related initiatives. 

•            Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to supervise and motivate volunteers and interns.

•            Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

•            Highly motivated self-starter who is able to work independently on complex assignments with strong follow-through.

•            Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

•            Sound computer skills including word processing and database management.

•            Understanding of the nonprofit, voluntary and social services sectors.

•            Ability to work flexible hours in a remote office environment.

•            Knowledge of the issue of campus sexual assault and experience in the field of higher education or a related field.
