Our local law enforcement agency that serves our local campus has welcomed non-investigative reports/”hypotheticals” for years and it has proven to allow reporting that would not otherwise happen.  It just so happens that the week before last’s EVAWI newsletter focused on non-investigative reports and might be helpful in terms of convincing others of its importance:  http://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/render?ca=711fdadd-cf93-4f39-9fd1-ba8e2795f38e&c=16b8c880-3627-11e3-9af8-d4ae5275dbc8&ch=177d02e0-3627-11e3-9beb-d4ae5275dbc8.

Take care,

Abby

We’re trying to work with our local law enforcement to increase reporting, but they’re not very comfortable with the idea of a non-investigative report. So I’m wondering if you all could answer a few questions for me:

1.       Does law enforcement in your jurisdiction take non-investigative reports (basically, will they take all the information but not investigate without victim permission)?

2.       If so, does your state have a statute specifically protecting law enforcement from liability when they take a non-investigative report?

3.       Are you comfortable with me sharing your response to questions 1 and 2 with our county prosecutor’s office?

Thanks!
