Jill, Here at the University of Delaware, early this academic year, the Title IX Coordinator and other administrators were looking into how & from what office a Climate Survey could
be conducted this year. Then mid-Fall semester, the Faculty Senate created a Faculty Senate Commission on campus sexual assault. The Commission developed 3 subcommittees: one to look at what is being done related to student education and faculty/staff training,
a second to look at policies, and a third to look at data. The Commission’s goal is to understand what services, policies, education & efforts are already in place, identify gaps & needs, and then make recommendations to the administration by mid-April.
So that efforts were not duplicated, the Title IX Coordinator approached Faculty Senate Commission and asked them to take on the task of creating and conducting a Climate Survey at UD. The data subcommittee agreed to do it and has utilized existing models
like those referenced in the White House Task Force Report, Koss’ Sexual Experiences Survey, the Rape Myths Acceptance Scale, to develop our survey. The survey goes to IRB for approval by this Friday with plans, if IRB approval is given, to conduct the Survey
in April. I believe that this Commission is a short-term entity and once their work concludes, it will still need to be determined where the Climate Survey will be housed more permanently.
