Hi Sarah, The CDC link that Kate provided has great resources. Along with everything that’s been said, I was just reading a review of prevention initiatives and evaluations which contains
information about what studies have shown, the quality of the studies, and recommendations on how to move forward with this information in mind. Available here:

Hope this is helpful. Good luck! Sincerely, Kelley Kelley M. Adams, MPH Program Manager, Violence Prevention and Response Grant Coordinator & Victim Advocate Community Wellness, MIT Medical E23-207, 617-253-1318 VPR 24-HOUR HOTLINE 617-253-2300 From: Kate Rohdenburg [mailto:]
Hi Sarah, Sending you some solidarity!! Prevention Innovations is the only collegiate program that can prove measurable impacts. They are of course specific to their own programs – Bringing in the Bystander and Know Your Power, but
they have some good evaluation on those and one can draw inferences if your programming is similar. Shifting Boundaries (Nan Stein) found that both environmental interventions along with programs reduced sexual harassment perpetration and victimization in
middle schools – again, you have to draw on the theory to make parallels to your programming. If it’s helpful this document outlines the program components that are most likely to produce change:
http://www.mentoring.org/downloads/mentoring_4.pdf It seems critical to me that all of these are showing activities beyond bystander intervention (as
in ONLY focusing on individual rape-prevention opportunities at parties) and are including conversations about power dynamics, gender, and rape culture/safe environments.
There are starting to be a few other curricula claiming positive outcomes, my opinion is that one has to be a little careful in how the measurements were taken – for example I am skeptical when
programs claim that their curricula reduced “self-reported perpetration” because it seems too likely to me that perpetrators are just more savvy about what behaviors they report. I’m also remembering some research that really any opportunity to talk about
SV as an issue is useful in raising people’s knowledge, skills and positive attitudes, but am having trouble citing it for you right now. My sense is also that it may be a bit outdated and have less of an impact now.
And finally, many resources here:

Colleagues, When presented with the following question, what are the most impactful data sources you would share in response? "Is there even any evidence to prove that prevention efforts work to prevent sexual violence?" Thank you in advance for your helpful feedback! Respectfully, Sarah P.S. Note I asked for what data sources you would share in response, though I'm sure there may be some other things we might all be inclined to say in response
to this type of question... :) Sarah B. Diaz, MSW |
