Hello,
I am a parent with some experience consulting to college peer counseling and sexual assault response groups (I have a JD and MSW). I have been asked to speak to my daughter's high school's graduating seniors and, separately, their parents about sexual assault on college campuses. My talk will be part of their transition to college co-curriculum experience. As I think about how to approach this opportunity I find myself far more concerned with the parent group than with the students! One comment I keep hearing is that parents don't believe that sexual assaults are perpetrated by predators. They point to the research that indicates that most victims "know" their assaulters and query how they can then be termed predators. The other line of thinking is that if assaulters are known to their victims most of these cases must be "hook-ups gone awry", rather than predatory behavior. Does anyone know of predator research more recent than David Lisak's 2007 study? Also, I wonder what is considered "best practice" for colleges in terms of initial and ongoing orientation around issues or sexual violence and bystander intervention. Thank you for the chance to seek counsel from this amazing group.

Hi Allison. I would contact the UNH Bringing in the Bystander Program. Their curriculum has been researched and evaluated by University professionals. Also, Kentucky University evaluated the Green Dot program. I’m not sure they will be able to connect you with evaluators outside of their institution gut it’s a good place to start.   Becky

Hello,

I’m trying to identify a researcher with experience working in sexual assault prevention in higher ed on an organizational/institutional level. Culture of Respect is launching a pilot program to assess the outcomes of our CORE Blueprint framework on campus sexual assault prevention. We are recruiting institutions to serve as pilot campuses for one year and have already secured some early participants. I’d like to find someone with the skills I mention previously to help us write the pilot protocol, which will likely include a process and outcomes evaluation.

Please contact me directly if you are interested or know anyone who has this skill set.

Thanks!

Alli
