Hello WRAC-L and SAPC colleagues going to NWSA this week:
I thought you might be interested in checking out a strategy session being held tomorrow, Thursday Nov. 13 between 2:30-3:45 for a new group called Faculty Against Rape. Simona Sharoni from FAR will be leading the session.
If you can't make the session but would like to talk with Professor Sharoni about FAR should feel free to contact her at or 518-572-4412. More
info about the group is below, with links to its webpage:
The mission of Faculty Against Rape (FAR) is to get more faculty involved in sexual assault issues on campus, and to protect faculty who experience retaliation for doing so. FAR provides resources for faculty to best support survivors, tools for faculty who want to get more involved in reform efforts, and support for faculty who face retaliation. The FAR Advisory Board includes the leading experts on sexual violence prevention in the world, and the organization is staffed by a dedicated group of faculty who have been actively involved in the new campus anti-rape movement.
The FAR website provides resources for faculty to support survivors, reform campus policy, and respond to institutional retaliation. The organization also provides direct support to faculty in the form of moral support, ideas for campus organizing, assistance with filing federal Title IX and Clery complaints, and legal referrals. FAR also hosts an annual “Faculty Day of Action” on April 16th each year where faculty raise awareness through teach-ins and talks, and pledge their support for survivors.
Best, Nancy
