Hi Everyone
Katie Koestner asked for the Data, Objectives/Outcomes, and Rates for the
"No Zebras, No Excuses - Bystanders and Sexual Aggression" program.
Please find attached the results from the first study. You will see a
significant change in rape acceptance myths. The second study we
conducted with approximately 2,800 new students involving pre, post, and
longitudinal data. It was expanded to address bystander behavior. Our
Institutional Review Board (IRB) is being audited and consequently the
data that we found can not be officially published until our IRB gets
approval. This is institutional wide affecting all research where the
numbers have been run in the past two years. Seems crazy to me that we
cannot publish until approved, even though we got institutional approval
when we conducted the study. Regardless, we found significance again with
a change in rape acceptance myths post and longitudinal. We also found
significance with bystander behavior and likelihood to intervene.
The No Zebras program originated at Central Michigan University in 1997.
Over the past seventeen years the No Zebras presentation has been seen by
over 40,000 people. It is evaluated and revised yearly and has been
studied showing significant change in behavior relating to myth acceptance
and likelihood to intercede.
Objectives:
1. After seeing this presentation, participants will be able to explain
how negative myths concerning sexual aggression were formed and their
effect on societal attitudes.
2. After seeing this presentation, participants will be able to define
sexual assault and describe the differences between consent and coercion.
3. After seeing this presentation, participants will be able to list the
most common characteristics of the ³Nice Guy² (Familiar Rapist), and his
sequence of behavior to assault.
4. After seeing this presentation, participants will be able to describe
the Bystander Process, and what they can do to engage bystanders in sexual
aggression prevention.
5. After seeing this presentation, participants will be able to discuss
the impact of sexual aggression and have concrete, street applicable
strategies to deal with it.
Rates:
The presentation consists of eleven vignettes with discussion between each
vignette. The travel group consists of 4 actors and 1 technician. All
are trained advocates with over 200 hours of training. The program is
approximately 60 minutes. The rates are for up to two programs in a day
with small group work where time allows. The fee is $3,000 plus expenses
per day of programming.
Please let me know if you need any further information. Take care.
