Title IX Investigator

Georgetown University is seeking an independent contractor to serve as a Title IX 

investigator. The Title IX Investigator will be responsible for completing the day-to-day 

responsibilities of Title IX investigations at Georgetown University, with a particular 

emphasis on complaints of sexual misconduct involving students at the university. The 

Investigator will report to the Vice President for Institutional Diversity and Equity/Title 

IX Coordinator. The Investigator will work closely with multiple university offices and 

divisions including Student Affairs, Georgetown University Police Department, and the 

Office of General Counsel. The Title IX Investigator will be expected to act as a neutral 

party in conducting prompt and thorough investigations of alleged incidents, and will 

provide detailed, unbiased reports regarding the findings of investigations. Among other 

things, Title IX Investigator responsibilities will include:

• Developing an investigative plan for each complaint 

• Contacting parties and providing them with information about the investigatory 

process

• Interviewing the complainant, respondent and potential witnesses

• Gathering relevant documentation

• Keeping detailed, consistent, and accurate records 

• Maintaining timely communication with parties 

• Drafting and issuing reports regarding the findings of the investigation

• Implementing and keeping apprised of new developments and best practices in 

Title IX investigation procedures

Qualifications:

• At least 3-5 years of experience conducting investigations, preferably in the 

education and/or civil rights arena; J.D. preferred; advanced degree in student 

affairs, higher education, criminal justice or related field also considered 

valuable. 

Beneficial experience will include:

• Familiarity with higher education and student conduct practices;

• Ability to maintain neutrality and establish credibility with broad range of 

constituents, including faculty, staff, law enforcement and others; 

• Experience conducting trauma-informed investigations and understanding of 

effects of sexual assault, harassment, and domestic and dating violence;

• Demonstrated skill in party and witness interview and investigation techniques; 

• Ability to conduct complex factual and legal analysis;

• Experience in, and awareness of, the sensitivity required when interacting with a 

diverse community on sensitive topics; 

• Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and good judgment; 

• Ability to produce high quality written work; 

• Strong and effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen well;

• Knowledge of complexities surrounding investigations in a university setting;

• Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary;
