Departmental Overview

The Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students team is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing programs, services, resources, activities, and processes for students in their non-academic life at the university, including student advocacy, wellness programs, new students services, career center, student legal services, student union auxiliary, public service, student conduct, leadership development, student organization advising, and crisis management.


Responsibilities

OVERVIEW: 
The Director of Sexual Assault Prevention and Student Advocacy will provide a coordinated community response to sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking at UC Berkeley. Major functions of the position are to better ensure a consistent institutional student-centered response based on best practices; to initiate and direct confidential student advocacy and case management following an incident; and to develop, implement, and oversee educational outreach on these topics for students, staff and faculty. 

The Director of Sexual Assault Prevention and Student Advocacy serves as a campus expert on student advocacy as it relates to sexual assault.  This position requires both the establishment and the maintenance of important campus and community partnerships, communicating directly on matters concerning sexual assault with the appropriate University resources including, but not limited to, the Office of Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (OPHD), University and local police departments, Gender Equity Resource Center, UHS Tang Center, The Center for Student Conduct, and Residential and Student Services Program. 

CRISIS RESPONSE AND CASE MANAGEMENT: 
• Initiate and direct case management following an incident to provide assistance to student survivors of sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking and others impacted by an incident; coordinate communication and response among University offices; ensure proactive outreach and follow up with survivors 
• Develop a coordinated response to student survivors of sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking utilizing a crisis response structure 
• Advise and provide consultation to assist additional personnel and departments that may serve as first responders in their response to survivors 
• Provide crisis response to student survivors of sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking, referring to appropriate resources for needed ongoing therapy 
• Manage case management data collection for purposes of identifying services provided 

EDUCATION AWARENESS AND PROGRAMMING: 
• Responsible for developing an infrastructure for planning, directing and evaluating educational programming in the areas of in the areas of sexual assault prevention, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking for students 
• Keep abreast of federal and state laws relating to student safety and identify best practices based on other University campuses 

LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISION: 
• Develops and evaluates a strategic plan and vision for creating a newly established University Sexual Assault Resource Center to better meet student needs 
• Recruit, hire, train and supervise professional staff and student staff


Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree +5 years minimum of experience in the sexual violence field or equivalent combination of experience (in the sexual violence field) and education 
• Advanced knowledge of advising techniques 
• Expertise in domestic violence and sexual violence research and best practices; experienced working with sexual assault and relationship abuse victims 
• Demonstrated experience and skill to effectively hire, train, and supervise staff 
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion, sensitivity and neutrality 
• Expertise in training models in sexual violence and trauma services 
• Must possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills 
• Commitment to and understanding of environmental prevention strategies in violence prevention 
• Partnership management skills, including collaboration skills; program design and implementation skills and experience; community mapping skills, and resource development.


Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience as a counselor and trainer 
• LCSW, Certified Rape Crisis Counselor, or equivalent  
• Familiar with educational, counseling and advocacy services offered within a university context 
• Demonstrated skill in grant writing


Salary & Benefits

Salary is commensurate with experience.  Hiring Range is $52,500-$80,300/annually.
