Dear colleagues,

Please pass along to your networks! Two upcoming webinar opportunities and the new webpage available from ATIXA, SCOPE's sister organization, dedicated to the newly released guidance.

A Rapid Response Webinar: Analyzing and Discussing the Recently Released FAQ’s from the Department of Education on the Title IX Dear Colleague Letter

They’re finally here! The Department of Education has issued answers to 52 Frequently Asked Questions about the April 4, 2011 Title IX Dear Colleague Letter.  These FAQ’s supplement the “Dear Colleague Letter” as significant guidance documents.  Join experts from The NCHERM Group and The Association of Title IX Administrators (ATIXA) for upcoming rapid response webinars as they analyze the FAQs, share their opinions, and discuss the implications of OCR’s answers.

The now-infamous “Dear Colleague Letter” targeting sexual violence in higher education on April 4, 2011, raises as many questions as it answered.  Now, we have more guidance to work with.  Some of the answers lighten our load, and some deepen our challenges.  The FAQs are wide-ranging and OCR indicates they attempted to address what were truly the most frequently asked questions or those that were deemed critical to ensure institutions know how to comply with Title IX. Our experts will offer you an overview of what’s news, what’s different and how to move forward in this 40-minute webinar.

Among the topics to be addressed in this rapid response webinar are the following FAQs:

  • Resident Assistants as Mandated Reporters/Responsible Employees
  • Key Differences Between a School’s Title IX Investigation and a Criminal Investigation and Parallel Investigations
  • Reconfirmation of the Role of Students – or lack thereof – on Hearing Boards
  • Appeals Process Timeline

PART II – An In-depth Analysis of the FAQs
Thursday, May 22nd, 2014, 1:00pm – 3:00pm ET
Presented by W. Scott Lewis, J.D.Saundra K. Schuster, J.D.Brett A. Sokolow, J.D. Daniel C. Swinton, J.D., Ed.D.
Cost: $349, Includes live event and access to a recording post-event

Now that we’ve offered an overview of the FAQ’s, our experts will provide an in-depth analysis of the FAQ’s. The presenters will also explore how this new guidance relates to the Clery Act, particularly the Campus SaVE Act as well as recommendations from President Obama’s Task Force on campus sexual violence.
