The U.S. Department of Education, on May 29th, issued guidance stating that the “Department expects that institutions will exercise their best efforts to include statistics for the new crime categories for calendar year 2013 in the Annual Security Report due in October of 2014.” This means that reports due this year will not be expected to include statistics for domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. The complete guidance can be accessed at the link below. If you have any additional questions about the changes made by the VAWA reauthorization to the Clery Act please let me know. S. Our Clery Act Administrator is worried about when we will need to start reporting the new categories of domestic violence, dating violence and stalking for our Clery Act Reports.
She believes we need to include these in our current report (i.e. the one going out in October 2013). I have repeatedly said that the law says these changes are effective in March 2014 and so therefore, we would only need to begin reporting by the following
October – as it would be impossible to collect statistics for the past calendar year when we did not have log these for Clery or even have a definition.
My question to you is – is there clear guidance on when we need to start putting these in our annual Clery reports?
