Hi sapc friends.

Below is an announcement about an upcoming webinar on title ix investigations.

These presenters are among the best I know.   I worked with Gina Miasto Smith for many years when she was in the Phila D A office.  She and her colleagues at Pepper continue to lead the way.   And Freeh as you may know is the gutsy investigator for the Penn State issues in their athletic dept.

I encourage all who are interested to check out their site and register for the webinar. The other ones that I have participated in were informative and very responsive to participants questions and perspectives

Best Wishes,

Ellie DiLapi

On March 13, 2013, we presented a webinar on "Investigating and Resolving Sexual Assaults on Campus." During the webinar we committed to future webinars providing more detailed attention to Title IX issues related to conducting investigations, providing fair adjudicative processes and creating effective policies and procedures.

We hope you can join us on June 26 in the first of this series to discuss practical considerations and effective practices in conducting a Title IX investigation. This webinar will feature attorneys from Pepper Hamilton and Connie Kirkland, a nationally recognized victim advocate with over 35 years of experience. Ms. Kirkland is currently the Director of Student Mental Health and Behavior at Northern Virginia Community College, where she chairs the Threat Assessment Team, manages the Sexual Assault Program and coordinates behavioral intervention and support services for the college. Each of our panelists are former prosecutors or educators with significant experience in investigating sexual assault, harassment and misconduct.

This webinar will present a discussion of informed and effective practices for conducting an investigation in a Title IX case, with a focus on how to conduct the interview of a complainant in a sensitive manner. The webinar will focus on structuring an interview that allows the investigator to seek relevant information to assess credibility. The panelists will also offer practical advice about the unique dynamics of sexual assault, understanding victim behaviors, and maintaining sensitivity to language and appropriate questioning. The webinar will also focus on how to provide the balanced attention to a complainant and respondent required in order to conduct a fair and impartial investigation.
