Dear colleagues;
As many of you know, a substantial number of sex crimes on campus involve the use of "rape drugs." (please don't call them "date-rape" drugs - a "date" is never about "rape" and a "rape" is never during a "date.") This new inexpensive test is easy to use and readily available which means students themselves will start using it whether or not forensic nurses do. And, of course, because schools CAN take victims to forensic settings where high quality testing exists, the ones that don't take advantage of state of the art options will stand out as less committed to ascertaining the truth - just as schools that refuse to come into full compliance with Title IX and Title IV are facing increased public criticism. Student awareness is growing quickly and students are working together with parents to teach each other about the importance of making sure schools are in full compliance with the best possible policies and procedures that treat sexual assault as a civil rights harm on par with violence and harassment "based on religion, race, ethnicity, etc."
Here is more information on the new test for GHB in urine/blood.
