The Riverview Center works to stop sexual and domestic violence in Iowa and Illinois. They’ve come up with a brilliant way to start conversations about the objectification of women, cultural norms and gender-based violence. Their “Superbowl Bingo” is a light-hearted way to approach a serious topic. Print out the card, bring it to your Superbowl Party and play along! When you see a commercial using a gender stereotype, you get a point. Woman bending over? You get another. Woman portrayed as stupid? You get the idea. http://www.riverviewcenter.org/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=lteTT_OnvvU%3d&tabid=40 The Bingo game is perfect for teens and young adults, but I’m bringing it to my Super Bowl party. It’s sure to start some fantastic conversations. The same old defensive responses to this consciousness-raising might be minimized, since you’ll be PLAYING A GAME! I’m hoping to win the first prize myself, just so that I have to excuse to visit the wonderful Riverview Center!
